Amazon FBA for Beginners: What Nobody Explains Properly
Speaker 1:
I've got someone else in the waiting room. How is everybody? For those of you who are new, we meet every month on the last Thursday of every month. It's basically a Q&A session. But if you guys haven't got any questions, that's also fine.
David can't hear anybody. Can everybody else hear? Let me just check. Matthew in. Can everybody hear? Give me an odd. Yeah, OK, cool. David, everybody else can hear. So it must be something your end.
If you have any questions, please pop them in the chat or you can raise your hand and we will get to you. I've actually got quite a few questions in for people. I am supposed to have Mira joining as well. She's got some questions.
She's just sending their products into Amazon FBA. Can we just chase Mira to join, please? OK, guys, I'm going to kick off. So like I say, it's basically a session for you.
If we don't get any questions, what I do is I tend to just do some demonstrations. Also, please remember that these weekly sessions do get put on our classroom. So if you are stuck or you can't get along to them,
you can always watch these sessions or rewatch them on the classroom link on your online platform link. So without further ado, I'm going to just jump into some of our latest trending products.
I've got somebody that's not on mute, so I'm just going to mute a few people because we're getting a bit of feedback. Okay, if you're not on mute guys while you're not speaking, please just mute yourself. That's great. Okay.
Let me share my screen. Let's see where we are. Okay, so some products for you. Some people are still in the infancy of their product sourcing. So we've got some questions about new trending products as I try and do every month.
Again, these are going to be put onto the platform, but there are some trending products in the States. Normally we see them in the States before in the UK and in Europe.
So again, looking at niche score six here for an industrial endoscope camera. This product is taking over $68,000 a month and average selling price is $50.26. Obviously,
this does depend on the kind of category that you want to sell in and remember, if you're going into a category, we really want to niche down. So what's already being offered in the category, how can we differentiate?
So we don't want to just copy what's being done. Another one here, I've got a few people in this industry. Again, universal car rooftop bag. The nice thing about this is it fits most cars.
So again, a really good one if you are thinking about this industry or you're doing this, creating something for the rooftop that's, again, good for lots of different vehicles could be great.
It's doing really well in the States, over $24,000 a month already. And again, for those of you in that travel niche, a heated seat cushion. Again, there's lots of places where you can sell where the weather's bad all year round,
especially in Europe, places further north. And in the States and Canada, there's some places there as well. Rotatable bookstands.
So people that do a lot of speaking, maybe on lecterns and things like that, rotatable bookstands are in demand. Dave is coming back in on another try, I think, so he can hear us.
For those of you in the gardening niche or outdoors, rubber, stepping stone, outdoor pathway, walkway stones. Very popular for people doing DIY. And again, these are new to market. Look, only 100 reviews and over $7,000 already this month.
And of course, we always see these kind of straighteners. The brush this time with the temperature display and heating. We know now Dyson's the sort of market leader, but we have the Braun.
Some of these products do phenomenal money, over $100,000, $200,000 a month, but you have to have the money, remember, to invest. So if you are selling here in the UK,
you can sell in the US as well without a tax code because you've got your VAT code here in the UK, so you pass as a UK seller. It's quite easy. You can send stock from the factory into the US and the numbers there are much, much bigger.
We've got some background noise. Okay. I've just muted a few people. Cool. Everyone's coming in tonight. I think they're thinking of Christmas. Those of you on personal care, lots of personal care products I've got to go through.
I've admitted some but still seeing loads of trending in skincare, in travel friendly kind of packs, deodorants, things like that. For those of you more in the niche of like yoga, well-being, the grounding mats are still really big,
the grounding sheets for the beds, all of those are really, really big news still. And then we have the baby crib mobiles, all the baby niche. Again,
you need to make sure the certifications for the factories are second to none if you are looking at babies because obviously you need to make sure that they've got international standards and they're abiding to all of the laws that we need for this niche.
Again, in the travel niche, lightweight travel organizers for suitcases and luggage. These are selling for $70, over $40,000 a month, only 71 reviews and already doing that amount of money. So again, ultralight compression packing cubes.
So things that pack down inside each other. So maybe people are traveling and they're going to do a big shopping spree and come back with loads of luggage.
These are really big in the States, which shows a nod to what's coming here more and more. So again, another really good product. For those of you into your pets, but also into your craft, origami, still huge.
Again, it is a small price, $11, but paper costs nothing to ship and nearly $7,000 a month. So we really use the rule of thumb of third, third and a third. Sometimes it can be as less as 20%, sometimes as much as 40%.
When we're looking at profit, so probably on this product, somewhere around $2,000 a month in profit. So again, initial batch, maybe not as high a profit because you're buying lower quantities but as you make more and more products,
you get more profitable. After surgery pillow sets, selling at $55, $32,000 a month and a baby bath support. And then we have AI glasses for men and women, smart glasses powered by ChatGPT,
AI real time translation with 145 languages and 11 hour music play. So you can walk around, you can have the music in your glasses, you can look on chat, you can have all this AI going on in your eyes.
I mean, I'd rather sit down at a computer, but you know, if you're on the go, Maybe it's a product for you. It's nice and light, charge a lot of money. And where are we at with this one? Over 100 grand a month.
Can you imagine what that's going to look like soon? That's, again, an early one to get into, an early adapter because only 52 reviews on this product. So it means that there's not many people in the market, but you've got to move quick.
And again, just a few more before we start taking questions. I'm going to come to everything in the chat. So if you've got questions, now would be a great time to get them in the chat so I can come to you after.
A retainer and a liner cleaner pod. We've seen this before. It's coming up again in the trends. People wanting to straighten their teeth, looking to clean their retainers, their orthodontics, their whatever they are,
they're looking to clean them but also mouth guards for rugby. And sports like hockey, also jewelry. So it's got different modes. So it's not just one. It can be lots of different things.
So great to have in the household, especially for your family. You've got sporty kids, sporty family. A computer vacuum cleaner. So people wanting to clean their computer, their keyboards, all of that stuff.
Still going on, still super, super popular. This one I thought was a really good product, an accordion file organizer. So for someone like a teacher that's going and that needs all the files,
maybe they're a lecturer, maybe they are somebody that is going from place to place, like a tutor that needs lots of things with them, this product, again, could be really good. I haven't seen anything like this. So again, very cool.
Lots of different organization things for teachers. Pull up files, stickers, this, that. So again, very, very cool. Three more, I think, two or three more. Power bank, cell phone stands. Loads of people needing more charge.
So this is actually a cell phone stand for power banks. And then finally, we've got more baby products, baby hair clipper with quiet clippers for the hair, ceramic blades, waterproof rechargeable trimmers and an LCD display.
And finally, Embroidery Hoops. Now, I think this is more of a trend for hanging things. Maybe it's Christmas, maybe it's Halloween, maybe we're seeing more of these at the moment. Nearly $9,000 a month with over 600 reviews. But again,
great product if you are thinking to start small and light so you can get products in quick and to market. So, some new products for you to think about for those people who are still stuck. OK, let me come to the chat. David has no sound.
He's going to leave and rejoin. Let me see if he's back. Yes, hopefully you can hear us now. You're here, David. Give me a wave. Can you hear us?
Unknown Speaker:
I can hear you.
Speaker 1:
Yay! Okay, good. Nelson, thank you. Straightforward so far. Any recommendations in nutrition, sport, triathlon, niche? Yeah, absolutely. We can look at that for you, Nelson. No problem. So when we go and look for products, remember,
if you are here for the first time and you are just making your way through the first module, One of the tools that we use initially are AMZScout.
There are lots of tools on the market and the reason we use AMZScout is because it's really easy for beginners. They're introducing tools at their speed of light and it's really quick to get a grasp on.
If you are thinking of purchasing, we do have still our discount of 10%. The code is KellyAMZ. You can use this to get a 10% discount. But let me take you there. So we've got Nelson who is one of our new people joining tonight.
So let me show you because you probably, Nelson, haven't had a chance to have a look in the AMZScout database. How we do this is You would go to your regular Amazon account. Now, obviously, I have got all the tools in the background running.
So yours probably won't look like this right now. But for instance, I'm in .com, so I'm in the States. So if I want to sell in the States, I would open regular amazon.com or if I'm looking in the UK, .co.uk, germany.de and so forth.
Just make sure you're in the right Amazon. If you download one of the AMZScout tools, you can literally put it up here on your toolbar. So for instance, let's look at Triathlon. We've got someone else joining us.
I don't know why it's so busy tonight. Normally it's like it's been super quiet these months and tonight I think everyone's decided to join which is lovely. Let's type in triathlon and let's see what comes up. My internet is really slow.
Let's go into this actually. Let's go into this. It seems like this is a really, this is coming up fast. It probably means it's the most. Let me go into my AI tool. So you don't normally see this when you're in Amazon,
but there's loads of tools that gives you really, really quick snapshot looks at what to be looking at, how to find a product. And this is one of the pro AI extensions that AMZScout has.
And once you buy the software, even if you just do a month, use the code, then you can literally get 10% off and you can just start looking for your product. So that's the best way. In Module 1, it's all about how do I find my products.
So start off with your hobbies and things like that and I talk all about this in Module 1. What we're looking for down this column here, the score for PL which is 1, not product name, brand, category. It's like the fourth one in.
Score for PL, we're looking for high numbers and you can see already that we've got some really, really high numbers. These are really, really good scores. So overall, it's a niche score of 7. Anything over 7, 8, 9, 10, really, really good.
And then really what you want to be doing is having a look why this is such a good product that is in demand. If you come across, you can see that this suit here is doing $10,000 a month and so forth.
If you come down, like this one's doing $17,000, $12,000, just in like one suit, which is kind of crazy when you think about it.
If you come across, you can see things like how much they're selling for, $125.99, nice price, lots of margin there. You can see what you pay to Amazon FBA for every sale. You can see your potential profits.
LQS is out of 100, which is your listing quality score. And then available from. So that's a new seller right there this year. And look, already doing 10,000 a month. So really, really good.
Only 43 reviews and in that top 10. And the reason you can see that there's room in the top 10 here is because, look, these are all under 1,000 reviews. Practically a new category. 32, 43, 12, 162. So this is very good.
There's only one seller, of course. This is your margin. Look, above 70% margin. Yeah, really, really good. So this is something that I would look at if I'm looking at, I mean,
I've just opened my first product, but I would put this into my tracker. Again, if you drop down the sidebar, so come to the far left of what you're looking at,
drop down the box, add to tracker, look at the profit calculator, product history. Now, I can look at my product analysis. So, I can even go here and look and analyze this product because I've got this AI tool now.
This saves me hours of work I would have had to have done before because it's going to give me the AI product inserts. It's going to give me the AI product improvements. I can copy it to my clipboard. I can literally look at everything.
So, the strengths, high net margin, positive customer reviews. Full zip and arrow sleeves, improve functionality, make an appeal to serious athletes, all of this. Then it's saying weaknesses. So it's like a SWOT analysis basically.
Opportunities. What are my opportunities in this category? What are my threats? Okay. So again, over $10,000 in this. And again, you can get the keywords. You can find this exact one on Alibaba. Look how easy this is.
So it's going to take us straight through to Alibaba. And we're going to be able to find this exact one. But remember, this is where we have to be clever. If you can find it, someone else can find it. How do we now make this better, different?
Well, we read the reviews. We look at the suppliers. We make sure that they are one of the top suppliers in category. We make sure they've got international standards.
We make sure that they are the right factory to be sampling from and doing business with. So, we mustn't get ahead of ourselves and just think, oh yeah, well that looks like that one that's selling loads.
Let me just order that and get it on Amazon. No, no, no, no. We go through the process. The process that I teach you in module two and three, how we sample, how we do it safely, how we check the factory certifications, all of that stuff.
Then how we find a brand name, we do our logo, we do our trademark and we make it into a really fantastic package. Yeah? So that's kind of where I would start. So that's one way Nelson to start. The other way is to go into the full.
We have a product database where we go into AMZScout itself, which is something also Elle, you can do. And you can start looking at, first of all, you need to be in the right country. So at the moment I'm in the US,
but if I want to sell in the UK, EU, wherever, you can drop down literally by country, Germany, France, Italy, you name it. And you can start doing your product database research literally from anywhere.
There's so many ways that you can do your research. You can look at the product database. You can go into clicking which categories you like. So if I'm set on, I want to do a baby product, then I'm just searching baby.
If I really want to do arts and crafts, I'm going to look in that. If I'm really into my mechanics, I'm going to put automotive. So you can do it by Start off by category. You can literally select all and do anything.
If you don't really care, you just want to make money, then select them all and see what comes up. You can then also come along here and get some product ideas. They've got this hub now. This is all new stuff. It's so cool.
Discover private label gems. Arbitrage, that's reselling. Print-on-demand merch, not what we're doing. But we can also get the thousand best-selling products in any category. Now, again, that could be good.
It could be bad because it could be oversaturated already. But there's also a button that gives you more filters, which when you drop down, you can literally look.
So I've put under 150 reviews because I want to find products that haven't got that many reviews. Why? Because I don't want to go into a category where the top 10's got thousands and thousands of reviews.
I want to go into a category where it's still quite young so we can get ahead. Product tier. Product tier matters if you don't want to ship massive products or you do want to ship massive products. Both have upsides.
A lot of people stick away from oversize because they don't want the shipping time. But if you do oversize, you do have more FBA fees. But there's less competition. So if you get it right, it's actually a really good niche and so on.
So at the moment, I've just literally done a quick search. Again, I've got loads of baby stuff coming up tonight. I don't know why. Bathtime, baby starter kits, bathtub, collapsible bath.
Again, if you're looking at newborn babies, all of that stuff, there's loads of stuff here. Again, we need to look at the safety, but there's lots of stuff in the States that we don't tend to have.
If you're looking to start here, prove your concept and move to the States. You could find some really good ideas. Obviously, Smart Home is always big, still big, but there's new products coming out. This is recessed lighting.
We've got, obviously, the Moonflower building set coming up to gifting time, so you're going to start seeing this a lot. And Home, of course, is here. Another interesting travel product here I noticed when I was looking earlier.
The vacuum travel kit so again very very big Traveling sucking the air out. I know this isn't new I know this has been around for years, but we're doing it better more effectively more efficiently and with nicer products and So again,
a compact rechargeable pump fits into any backpack, carry-on or suitcase. So people that are traveling a lot don't want to check on their luggage. Maybe for people that just want to just get the clothes down. This is a great product.
Maybe they're traveling a lot. Investing in something like this is going to be great because you're going to save on that luggage every time you travel. With these budget airlines, they charge like 80, 100 quid every time.
It can cost a fortune. So again, this is something I'm seeing over and over again. So if you are in this niche, it could be a good product. Going back to the database, again, like I said, we're seeing a lot now,
you know, entertaining products, cake stands, glass bottles decanting, things like that. We still see the electrical pepper grinders and so, again, coming in just different formats but they've been around forever.
I would steer clear of water bottles. I've had so many people come to me that have watched people's YouTube from years ago, they've invested in.
Terrible products like really regular bog standard water bottles and they cannot sell them for love nor money and they come to me thinking that I'm going to be able to sell them where they are just a dime a dozen.
So anything that's vanilla guys, we don't do. Do not do vanilla products. What I mean by that are products that are just available everywhere because you will not sell them. You need something different.
So that's what we're really looking for. Look how many of these copper water bottles and I know copper is really good for you but again there's just absolutely loads of them. How do you make your head stand above them?
It's very, very difficult. You need to find something more original. So yes, so there's loads of ideas in here. You've also got your trending products ideas. You've got your reverse ASIN. You've got your builders.
You've literally got everything in here. So what I would say is once you get started in module one, you'll learn how to use it more, but this is just a quick kind of look in here.
Either by starting off on the AI tracker or coming to the main database and really looking at your niches, what interests you. If you still find that you can't find any products,
then go through the trend reports that I've put on the classrooms because you'll find some products there. What I would say is if you are looking to do something that is already out there in the market,
Take, for instance, I don't know, a silk pillow or something like that.
What I would do is I would take it down a route of anti-acne or kids or teenagers or you've got to find a way of bundling something completely different for a unique market, okay?
What we're not looking to do is do something for the general market that's already there. So always think niche down, niche down, niche down, okay? How can I make this for a category?
I'm a specific person and believe you me, there'll be enough people wanting to buy it. So don't worry about if I niche down too much, will someone buy it? Yes, they will.
If the product is good enough and it's made giftable, giftable products on Amazon sell year round. Think about kids' birthdays, mother's birthdays, friend's birthdays, auntie's birthdays, dad's.
If you make a gift that's giving all year round, it's not just got hearts for Valentine's. But it's something that's 30 quid, 40 quid, 50 quid. There are people on Amazon that just want a solution. They're at work.
They're like, what can I get my mom? What can I get my dad? What can I get my cousin? So if you can make something that's also giftable, that's where we see huge sales. OK, so another really, really big tip gifts,
gifts that keep giving all year round and then they give back to you, which is even better. OK, enough of that. Right. Questions. Okay, Mira, I know you want to know how to send your stock into Amazon, right? Let me unmute you.
Unknown Speaker:
Yes, hi everyone. Hello. Hello, hello. Yes, I would appreciate if you could help me with this please. I'm ready. I have 500 kilos of boxes.
Speaker 1:
Okay, fine. Let me, I'm going to meet you just so I can take you through, but I'm going to take you through how to send your stock in. So your listing's live, you're in for everybody.
I'm not going to tell you Meera's product because sometimes we're quite secretive, but that's okay because that's all good. Meera's worked very hard on this product. So, Mira has got this beautiful product. It's arrived in the UK.
She had to get the poly bags. So, it's a product. You have to put it in a bag and then you have to put a barcode on it, okay? So, she's at the stage now where she's got all of this stuff. She needs to send it into Amazon.
So, I'm just going to show you. I'm just going to pull up one of our Amazon account. Let me find, let me find, let me find, let me find.
Unknown Speaker:
Okay, what's not showing?
Speaker 1:
Okay, hopefully now. Right. So if you go to, um, manage inventory.
Unknown Speaker:
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
So manage inventory. And then what we do is we find the product that we want to send inventory. Yep. So say you click here, you go along and at the end of the column, there's these three buttons here. Click the button.
And send or replenish inventory. Oh, yeah. My internet is not very, very good tonight. But you've got that on your screen, right? Yeah, I just it's just opening slower. Yeah. Yeah. You got it.
OK, so then what you want to do is you want to set up your box template. So where it says here, create new template.
Unknown Speaker:
Packing details. Okay, packing details. Create new packing template.
Speaker 1:
Yep. So you want to create a new packing template. Now, what this is, you need the same amount of product in each box, in each master carton. So say, for instance, you can fit 36 or 50. You would write here,
just so that you can remember it for next time, 50 units or 50 unit box or 50 box template. So you know that that's your template name. OK. You then put down how many units in the box, obviously 50. And then you put your box.
Just a second, please. A unit per box, I have 40. OK, so this would be 40. And your packing template name would be 40, 40 box template. Then you would add in here the dimensions, OK? So length, It doesn't really matter.
Length, width, height, and then the box weight in kilograms. If it's 57, should I put 60 for height? No, put 57. 57, okay. And each box is 100. Actually, it's 98.7, or to put 100? 100 what? Kilos. That's too heavy. Do you mean 10 kilos? No.
A hundred kilos?
Unknown Speaker:
Yeah, actually, how is it possible to be a hundred kilos?
Speaker 1:
Okay, there are weights... Yeah, it is a hundred kilos, yeah, because the product itself is about 500 grams. Okay, so you're only going to be able to send up to about 12 kilograms. Because remember,
people are going to have to pick these boxes up and there's weight restrictions on how heavy the boxes can be. You can't send in a box that's really, really, really heavy because Amazon will say no.
Ideally, you want to be a normal master carton will be about 10 to 12 kilograms, okay? So you put units per box, box dimensions, so like 30 by 45 by 25 and then the weight and then who preps the units.
Now, have you put barcodes on each of the poly bags? Yeah. Okay. You just click buy seller, okay, because you are labeling everything. Note guys that when we have your barcodes and you've listed your product,
Amazon will give you the barcodes when we go to print labels and those FN skew labels need to be on your boxes. Because if they're not, they're going to charge you every time they prep your products by each one. It used to be 25 pence.
Now it's more like one pound. It's going up and up and up as this minimum wage goes up. So note to everybody, the G10 barcode that we put on for regular retail is one thing. So we're selling TK Maxx and Marshalls and Winners.
We're just packing a usual order right now for the States. But that's one thing. But for Amazon, they want their own barcodes. So you need to make sure that that's on the packaging. OK, so you will put by seller here and then you will save it.
That's your template for each of your boxes. So say you've got 20 in there, 12 kilograms. You've saved your template. I'm not going to save that because I've already got mine saved here, right?
So now I'm going to say, okay, I want to send all of this from this address. If I want to ship from another address, I just add another shipping address, okay?
So I can create the labels even from China and send these to the factory or I can just put it from a company or a 3PL or from a warehouse here in the UK. It doesn't matter. It's easy. So I'm putting a new ship address here.
And I save it or I'm going to say, OK, I'm going to ship from this address and I'm going to send in two boxes. It knows it's 72 units because it's 36 per. I'm ready to send it. OK. I'm going to confirm it.
So again, it's saying that it's going to charge me for prep £128.16. Now, I'm not going to continue with this because I don't need to sell this product. Well, I do actually but it's not my job so I'm not going to be doing it.
This is how you send in your stock, okay? So it's really simple, Meera. Once you've got those, you can't ship a box that's 100 kilos. They won't accept it. So you need to put it in some- The maximum is 12 kilos. Oh, it's 12.
Okay, I didn't know that. Yeah, so 100 kilos, what you've got to think about is protecting people's health and back because obviously if they try and pick up 100 kilos, that is just not going to happen. So, I always make mine 10 to 12 kilos.
That's what we always do and we never have any problems, even for retail. Anything more than that, you're going to get a big problem. So, that's how you would send your inventory into Amazon, okay?
So, you just go up here, Inventory, Manage Inventory, tick whichever one you want to send, go to the three buttons and it's the same thing for printing your item labels, okay? If you want to print your barcodes. So print my item labels.
How many do I want? I'm going to send in 76. Boom, boom, boom. Download it, print it off or PDF it if you're going to send it to the battery. I want, say, 70. Print labels. I'm going to use the 30 up labels on my printer. Print item labels.
It doesn't because I'm saying US, but I need to say UK. Anyway, that's how you do it. Any problems, once you get the smaller cartons, then you can just message me and we will figure it out, help you. Yeah, probably I'll need it again. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker:
Oh my gosh. So I need smaller boxes. My gosh.
Speaker 1:
You can order boxes from Amazon, believe it or not. So if you need boxes, just go to Amazon. They have, you know, like the moving boxes. They're really quite a good size, about 40 by 30. You know, they're very good.
And you can buy like I sell 12 or 20 boxes for like nothing, like £12 or something, £15. So, I mean, that's really, really good. I would just get them. Yeah. So, Nadja, the ones I have at home are over 12kg.
Nadja, we don't need to repack them because we've already sent them in. Are they exactly how they were sent in before? Sorry, say again. Sorry, I've just got another message from Nadja. Yeah, that's fine. Nadja, that's fine.
Sorry, Nadja's just saying in the chat she's got products in the UK and Germany. We've just sent them in. If you've sent those products in before, that'll be absolutely fine, but 100 kg is way too much.
So yeah, Mira, get the boxes, work out how many you can fit in each one. And then we need to revisit that template. Let's create the template and then we can send them in. OK. And what about the transportation? So once the labels are done.
You continue to the next screen and after that screen it says, do you want Amazon to use Amazon's carrier? And you just say yes and then literally it's UPS normally in the UK and it says we're going to charge you £10 and you say yes.
And then literally it gives you the label and what you end up with is two labels. You end up with like one like this and another one. And basically one is like this is going to FBA Northampton.
And then this one is like all of your codes with all your barcodes. And when it gets to Amazon, they just go blip, blip, and it tells them exactly, okay, it's this seller. That's where I put the products. And it goes straight into stock.
So, it tells you everything and it gives you the label. If you're selling like 10 boxes, it will say 1 of 10, 2 of 10, 3 of 10. It's that simple. It's always better if you're shipping UK to UK, use Amazon Courier because it's much cheaper.
They give you really good rates. It's kind of crazy. It's really quite inexpensive to ship into Amazon. If you're coming from overseas, it's quite complicated because you print off the labels and you think,
this is really weird because I'm sending the factory the labels for Amazon, but they've still got to book the transport because that transport is going to go door to door,
but the labels still go on them because Amazon needs to scan them when they get in. So it's kind of like you have to do both. It's kind of strange. But once you've done it once, you get your head around it.
So, yeah, so hopefully that answers your question. I'm going to move on to some more questions now just so I can get through everybody's. Okay, let's see what else I have here. Okay, we've got a question about trademarks. Is everybody clear?
Does everybody understand here why we need a trademark when we're working on Amazon? We've got a question around, do we need a trademark for the first time we have a product on Amazon? It's completely up to you.
If you are just trying a product and you've got a really good product but you're not sure if it's going to sell, then you don't have to have a trademark. But it's about £170 to do your trademark in the UK directly with the UK trademark.
And if you do your logo and put your trademark application in, it means that when you have your products on Amazon, you can attach it to the trademark and have it brand registered.
It means that you have greater protection and you also can have video content. Now,
that really helps when you are trying to sell your product in a better way because a lot of people haven't got time to look through all the images and they just look at the quick video.
So trademarks are good for that but also if you're thinking of building a brand to sell in the future, then you do need to have the IP of your brand. You can't just have a great product with no IP because again,
It's not going to sell because people are going to think, well, you haven't even got the IP of your brand. So therefore, what am I actually buying? OK. And obviously, if you've got a tech brand,
you also need to think about buying the IP of the technology gets a bit more complicated. But again, is something that we can look at if you are in that space. Other questions and to do that let me just show you the website. Go direct.
There's loads of people trying to take your money. Loads and loads of websites that are not needed. You can actually go direct. You can go direct to the IPO and go directly to the government website and it's much,
much cheaper, probably about £300 cheaper than people try and take money off you. It's also really good. We also have this in the US called the USPTO as well. So you just go to the government website, search for trademark.
And if you're not sure if the name that you want for your brand is available, then just search by keyword, phrase or image and you can type in, they're thinking that I'm, because I go to this a lot, they're not thinking that I'm human,
they're thinking that I'm like some AI person. But basically you can check your brand name. So you can literally check the names that you're thinking of registering In the class that you want to,
and you can look at the classes, there's 44 classes altogether, and you can search. So that means that you can definitely check before you pay that money and put your application in because if it's not accepted, you waste that money.
So what I would say, before you buy a domain name and you buy a brand name, you want to come here. Again, all of this is in the course, but it's just quickfire questions for those of you that haven't had time to get through the course yet.
I've got another question here around how do I make a good hero image? When you're looking at your listings on Amazon, let's see if we can find one. Let me just quickly go to Amazon here again. We're looking for that first image to be 85%.
Remember, your first image has to be all white on white background. It can't be with colors, logos, anything. Amazon will not allow it. They'll suppress your listing. So the background has to be white. Where were we before?
So like this product here. This product is mainly image. It's not mainly background. Someone came to me the other day and said, oh, is this OK for my first image? Honestly, the image was about that big in the middle of the white screen.
And it's like that is just not going to happen. People aren't going to look at it. What you also need is that when you put your mouse over it that it zooms. So it needs to be zoomable.
Remember you're not going to be able to pick up this product so you need to be able to zoom over it all and look at it as if you were in front of the actual item yourself.
If you are giving away accessories or a bag or anything else it's important to have them on this screen as well so people know. When you first look at it, what am I getting? They want to know everything, okay?
So you've got to imagine they're standing in front of this image like they're standing in front of your house if you're selling your property or your clothes if you're in a clothes store. And then comes all the rest of the images.
So we always do this. Competitor versus ours, somewhere in the infographics. Ours versus theirs. To tell people why ours is better, okay, so no vacuum bags, cheap vacuum kit, travel pack. They've got the trademark, they're using the TM.
And again, all of the reasons that you want to buy this. This is called an infographic where we've got information and we've got graphics mixed together. So we'll always try and put some infographics into the listing.
So people understand why. Oh wow, I'm getting 60% more space. Wow, I'm going to get all of these clothes in my bag. And again,
in the more images you'll see they haven't put a video here which they should do which would improve their listing score which is probably why it's only 72. One of the reasons, but you can buy them in a pack of two,
pack of four, and you can buy the vacuum pump separately. And again, got a really nice diagram there of a really big inflated bag and how you can just put it all down.
How also you know someone's got a trademark, as you can see here, visit the extra store. You've got a line. When you roll your mouse over here,
You can tell that these guys have got the trademark because you get your own store that you can build within Amazon. So you can visit the store and you can see all the other products that this brand do.
So sometimes somebody might start with, I don't know, Travel, they then might do something like travel wallets, travel, you know, it could be anything to do with travel. Same if people start, you can see here MagSafe, WalletPro, CarPro.
Sometimes people launch the first few products, they're okay, not great and then they just launch that product and it takes over everything else and then that becomes almost the hero of their range and they build other colors,
other versions of it. It happens a lot. Beauty, my world, my background, it happens in everything. It's a bit like, those of you who know Urban Decay, when they launched the Naked palette, it becomes so big that everything was naked.
Naked this, naked that, naked lip gloss, naked palettes. It almost felt like that was the brand because it became bigger than the brand. So again, line extensions, diffusion lines, all of that stuff can come from that.
So hopefully that speaks to you that wanted that information. Another quick two questions I think we'll get through. Any more questions, put them in the chat.
So, when we start on Amazon, the reason that Amazon will hold your payments for the first 30 days is in case there are any refunds, okay? So, normally, Amazon will pay you every single two weeks. And it comes through on the statements.
You can see exactly the FBA fee gets deducted from each purchase and if you're running ads, it also gets deducted. So you can see exactly what's going on.
But the first 30 days, you will not receive any money because they are waiting to see if people are going to refund your product. If they don't like it, they want money to be in that account. When you first open your Seller Central account,
remember you put a credit card or a debit and that's the card that will be debited. You can find all the information in your report section. Where we went into the FBA section on the top left, in there is a whole reporting system.
You can look at business reports, returns, literally everything in there. So you can see what dates you're going to get paid and when you're going to receive your money. I finally have my products en route to the UK and the USA.
What should I concentrate on now in preparation of their arrival? David, what you need to concentrate on now is you need, if you've got the trademark, you need to make sure you've got the images. You need to make sure you've got the videos.
You need to make sure that A plus content's being uploaded. Once the products come in stock, you need to enroll in the Vine program, which is the early reviewer program. Those early reviewers really, really count.
So you need to do as many as possible. If it says 10 or 20, I know it's a free product but without them, you've almost got to look at your first lot of stock as it's like the traction to the world.
It's pulling the people in, getting the reviews, making sure you're set up for success. So you are going to have to gift those first 10 or 20 products because what it does is it wakes up the algorithm.
And it just lets Amazon know, oh, we've got a new seller. What are people saying? What are the sales rate? What are the velocities? The people won't even see your product if you don't get reviews and start the ads.
Don't start the ads until you've got the reviewer program started because you need reviews. If you've got no reviews, people won't buy from you because they won't trust you. They want to read what people are saying.
If they're going to spend £20, £30, £50, £100. They want to know this is a good product. They're not going to buy your product if they can buy someone else for £5 cheaper that's got 100 reviews. It's just not going to happen.
How do you enroll in the VIME program? You just go to the early reviewer section on your Seller Central account, David. It is quite easy. It's in advertising on the left menu. You go into advertising, you go into VIME.
So once the products get in stock, that's where you need to go. Meera, please type in your question about the returns that you've got a question. Just type it in the chat and I will answer it in a second. No problem. We are located in the UK.
Will it be easier to start selling in the UK than Expanse? So if you're located in the UK, I would start selling here. You need to go through Module 1. You need your company, the business, all to match. And then you need to get a VAT number.
If you want to sell in other European countries, you need a VAT number. And also for the U.S., once you're U.K. compliant, you can sell in the U.S. so you can just ship into the U.S.
It's actually a lot easier than selling in Europe right now since Brexit. There's lovely people that voted for us. Yes, adds so much work, but you know, each to their own. Everybody can have their vote.
But when you're in a product business, you realize how difficult it is not being part of Europe. Do I have to have a logo with all the products that go into my Amazon store?
Not always, but if you want them under the same brand, then I would always, so for instance, if you're doing a product where you can get lower MOQ and not print on the actual product,
You can do it without putting a logo on the actual physical product. However, you can try and make a box in case they question it being in your brand store.
And then you take a picture of the barcode and the name on packaging and then you won't have any problems. So you don't always need it on the primary packaging, but you definitely need it on the secondary packaging,
which is like the outer box. So, yes. So, other countries are brilliant because at the end of the day, if you've got to buy more product, you can do it in parallel. UK to US is quite easy. UK to Europe, you need the VAT number.
You need to apply separately. It takes about 12 weeks. They ask you a barrage of questions. Nigel will know this because he's just been through it. You also need a lucid number. I'll type it in the chat.
So you need a lucid number if you're going to sell in Germany. You can do that once you've got your VAT number. It's pretty easy, but it's all to do with packaging. Yes, returns.
You can set up your returns, how you want to receive your returns in your Seller Central account. Either they can send the stock back to you or you can have Amazon destroy it. Now, either one of the two, you can set it up in Amazon.
It's super simple and if you want them to return it to you, there is a cost and you need to make sure your address is in there. If you want them to destroy it in field as in just get rid of it,
put it into landfill, which is horrible to think about, then they could do that too. So you just need to check the option and yeah, just set that up. Okay.
Unknown Speaker:
Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh.
Speaker 1:
Okay. We have some people that just sell on Amazon, just start their Amazon ads because we do the keywords so we make sure people are searching for the keywords and our products come up. You can also do ads on social media and push them in.
You can also do meta ads and push them into Amazon. Obviously, the direct-to-consumer products are really, really big.
So whether you're doing the electric brushes, whether you're doing something that's really like TikTok-y, Instagram where people are shoppable. If you've got like vitamins and things like that, they sell really well direct to consumer.
But you can also push them into Amazon and you will get a bit of a referral rebate fee on that referral FBA fee. But again, it really depends if you've got someone good doing it. If you understand it, then fantastic.
The more active you can be, the better. There's influencer platforms. You know, people using UGC content. There are influence agencies. So there's loads of I mean, the more the better.
Like if you can use, you know, influences as well, then fantastic.
